Just wanted to know if anyone has a good, bad story about typing programs in to an early micro from a magazine or book?
I had good fun with this tiny basic program, from a Usborne book (Usborne released a lot of early micro programming books).
(i'm on holidays so am going to pass/waste some time typing it)
10 let a=38:let b=23:let z$=chr$(255)
20 cls:dim z(a,b)
30 let q=1:let w=15
40 print tab(q,w);"*"
50 if z(q,w)=1 then print "crash":stop
60 if a=q then print "well done":stop
70 let a$=inkey$
80 let x=int(rnd(1)* a+1)
90 let y=int(rnd(1)* b+1)
100 let z(x,y)=1:print tab(x,y);z$
110 if a$="a" then let w=w-1
120 if a$="z" then let w=w+1
130 if a$="m" then let q=q+1
140 goto 40
If you get it to run you will be able to play a cool little maze game.
I also tried to write my own 'text adventure game' when I was young. But could not really work out how to code it (disaster).
discuss your programming disasters/triumphs.

Games and Pokes from mags that you had to type in was probably what got me interested in coding. And yes Ive had my fair share of typing for hours only to find that the prg didnt work, lo and behold the following month some of the mags would issue corrections............
BTW-I get a syntax error in line 40 of that game you posted, and I havent worked out why yet as it looks like it should work, but its been a couple of years since I did a lot of basic and the old brain forgets things easily....

Oh I used to love typing in games for an hour or so on my zx80 and them finding them not working lol. Most games had no visuals except for command line interface lol. ALso the zx80 flashed the screen on and off with each keystroke. _________________ Visit http://www.sickindividual.com |
