Does anyone know of any commodore 64 easter eggs?
you know those little bits of code you put in and then something happens...
Maybe they don't even exist on the C64? |

Bits of code like described here does exist, but on the C64 it has to be loaded in everytime via disc,on the Commodore Amiga its a different thing as it can have a hard drive plugged in and then months later (for many of these type of PRGs were coded to operate weeks later) so you may have gotten a disc with a few cracks on it and somewhere hidden in the DIR would be a disguised prg,it could even look like a Del file (deleted) maybe just a pretty line in the Dir,there are many ways of hiding this.........anyway 2 or 6months or however/whatever date your computer would get a message on it and it would vary from anything mild like "Today is national marijuana day" to "Your Computer is now under our control" there were hundreds on the Amiga but only a few for the C64 as that wasnt origionally fitted with a hard drive.
Hope that helps, but yes many of the ideas and code were origionally developed on the C64 (one of the reasons its still very popular with coders, its limitations, you only had so much room for your code so you had to make it as small and sweet as possible)
You can check this part for yourselves by downloading either Vice or Hox64, 2 emulators I use, and althought they arent 100% when compared with an original breadbox, they work fine just check the KBs/size of the prgs then look at any comprable demo on the PC, whose size will be in the MBs..........

Great info there tomz - thanks very much
Isn't it interesting how early on in the computing world hackers started to make their mark.
Today unfortunately it is out of control with hackers trying every little trick under the sun to scam people. quite sad really.
Speaking of which, I get at least a dozen spam users signing up to this site everyday! In actual fact there are over 22,000 registered members! (guess how many of those are spammers...) |
